DOGS AND CATS: Anonymous

This story is quoted from a book called " Help I can't stop laughing!" selected by Ann Spangler with Shari Macdonald.

" Adam and Eve said, " Lord when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you loved us."
And God said, " NO Problem! I will create a companion for you who will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unloveable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves."
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve, and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, " Lord, I have already named all the animals in the kingdom, and I cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God said, " No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him 'Dog'."
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that and angel came to the Lord and said, " Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks, and they beleive they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved but perhaps too well."
And God said, " No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know they are not always worthy of adoration."
And God created 'Cat' to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them.
And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.
And Cat didn't give a fig one way or the other.

Here's one more short one:

The Difference between Dogs and Cats by John Ortberg.

According to received wisdom, there is a difference between dogs and cats. A dog says, " You love me, feed me, shelter me, care for me--- you must be God."
A cat says, " You love me, feed me, shelter me, care for me--- I must be God."

So true, I can't argue.

Our two cats just LOVE to screach and meaow and whine for food when they think it's time to be feed. They've learnt if Daddy opens the door at 4 am to their squacking, it's not a good idea to remain in sight, but if Mommy opens the door, it's all good.

Cats are smarter.

Dogs are nicer.

(LOL for you - I typed "Dougs" instead of "dogs" first!!)

" Help, I can't stop Laughing "
That's a great title; Neither can I! I'm semi-lurking on this one---keeping my comments to myself for fear of getting zapped. (lol)

Doug/Dog........sometimes they are interchangable. I've been in the "doughouse" a few times, trust me!
I'm not sure that cats are smarter. I've had both and dogs are definetly smarter. You won't see any cats at an obedience trial. Cats are much easier to look after because they are so independant and really don't need you. I think they tolerate us.I love my cat, but I really miss having a dog to walk.......(sigh), someday.
There is truth in this story.

don g.......go ahead, I dare you! It's ok, it's my blog.

I have to agree with Doug, even though I am a Cat person I think biologicly Dogs have the upper hand, larger brain size perhaps?

But it's difficult to compair intelligence between species. Dog's are pack animals, and they learn tricks, or can be "Trained" because like humans they have a basic desire to please those above them. They are driven by a social hircy(sp).

Cats are solitary animals, wile they CAN live in prides, each feline takes care of its individual needs and so they do not hold that basic pack mentality that dogs and humans hold, and are not held by social preasure to please those above them.

It doesn't mean cats don't want or need those that care for them, I think it just means they are intelligent in different ways.

But I do think Dog's are capable of higher learning then a cat is.

But cats can learn tricks, it just takes longer.

I'll get off my soap box now.
